A group of youths across Ondo State under the aegis of Progressive Ondo Youths (POY) have urged the member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye to give a thought to the idea of contesting 2020 governorship election of the state.
This position was canvassed by the group’s Coordinator, Comrade Eniola Akinwande on Tuesday through a statement made available to newsmen in Akure. He said the group and indeed the youths of Ondo State have thought it necessary to have one of their own as the next executive governor of the State. Akinwande also said that the choice of Adefisoye was readily arrives at by the youths because of the fact that he is the Youth Ambassador of Ondo State and his impressive performance so far in the Lower Legislative Chamber.
The statement reads in part, “We truly need a paradigm shift in the leadership of Ondo State. The expected innovative governance in Ondo State is evidently lacking and true development appears to have been arrested. We have had enough of these analog governors and this fact has always impacted negatively on developments of our state. Akure, the state capital is always in darkness at night because the street lights are no longer powered. Other critical infrastructure in the state are experience fast experiencing decay on a daily basis and this is should not be the case. This is quite disappointing and it more than enough reasons for the youth to have come together and agree to support one of their own that can bring true development”.
However, the Special Adviser to Hon. Adefisoye on Media and Publicity, Oluyemi Fasipe has vehemently denied that his principal is nursing any governorship ambition. Fasipe, however, thanked the group for underscoring the leadership qualities embedded in Hon. Adefisoye and for appreciating the lawmaker’s performance in the House, but he was emphatic that these are not enough to drag his principal into the gubernatorial contest of 2020. ” The priority of Hon. Adefisoye at this is to continue to give quality
representation to his constituents. He has more than enough on his hands now and nobody or group should add to it. Let me emphatically make it clear that my principal does not have any governorship ambition and he does not intend to contest for governor in year 2020″, Fasipe explained.
